Dear Families,

One more day of school! This week we reviewed many kindergarten skills including money. The boys and girls should continue to review money all summer long. The kindergartners were able to visit both first grade rooms and write in their journals what they are excited about doing in first grade. On Tuesday we went to the nursing home with the third graders.

If we didn’t get to have track and field day today, Friday, May 30th, then track and field day will be on Monday, June 2nd. Our June 2nd events are the sack race at 9:30, the 50 yard dash at 12:15, and the tug-of-war at 12:20. When all the events are over, families may pick their child up at the child’s room. They will have backpacks and folders to pick up and take home. Please put sunscreen on the children at home and send some to be put on later if you feel it is necessary. While we are outside participating in track and field day we like to have the children stay with the class instead of walking around with their families. It is easier to keep track of 41 students that way. Since we are not out at the track and field day all day, we DO NOT want beach towels or water bottles sent to school with the kindergartners!

Kindergartners have the opportunity to earn four special awards at the close of the school year. One of the awards is called Outstanding Attendance and is given to the children who missed two days or less this school year. Children receiving this must also not have been tardy more than twice. Two awards are academic awards. An award is given to the children who can correctly count to 100, and one is given to the children who can correctly name all of the letters of the alphabet, both capital and lower case. Children that can tie their own shoes will get an award. Children who do not receive any of these four awards WILL receive an award which recognizes their particular strengths. This way all children will receive at least one award. The awards will be handed out on the last day of school (unless track and field day has to be switched!). Watch the Traer Star Clipper for your child’s name! We give the newspaper a list of award winners.

This week we went into the elementary computer lab and worked on the internet. We worked on reading at a site with the address www.starfall.com. The boys and girls really enjoyed working at this free site. Fourth grade students helped us in the lab.

Have a great weekend! Next week we have school only on Monday. On Monday we get out of school at 1:35. Please be prepared for this!

This is the last newsletter that we are sending home this year!

Dear Families,

This was our last full week for school! (Remember, we do not have school on Monday.) That is very hard to believe! We reviewed money and rhyming words. The boys and girls were able to visit both first grade rooms and write in their journals what they are excited about doing in first grade. We played a probability game called “Purple Beans”. In this game the children dropped 10 beans on a quiet mat and counted how many of them landed so that the purple side was on the top. (The other side was white.) A chart of their beans came home with the students.

KINDERGARTNERS WILL BE GOING TO THE NURSING HOME ON TUESDAY, MAY 27TH. WE WILL WALK THERE IF THE WEATHER PERMITS. THIRD GRADERS WILL BE ACCOMPANING US. WE WILL PERFORM AT ABOUT 1:00.
Do not forget that on Friday, May 30th, we have our annual track and field day. Our events are the sack race at 12:30, the 50 yard dash at 12:45, and the tug-of-war at 1:00. When all the events are over, families may pick their child up at the child’s room. They will have backpacks and folders to pick up and take home. We will probably have to wait in the room for a little bit to get our certificates from track and field day. Please put sunscreen on the children at home and send some to be put on later if needed. While we are outside participating in track and field day we like to have the children stay with the class instead of walking around with their families. It is easier to keep track of 41 students that way. Since we are not out at the track and field day all day, we DO NOT want beach towels or water bottles sent to school with the kindergartners!

Dear Families,

We read our last colorful booklet of the year. Hop With a Hog should have come home with your child earlier this week. We recommend that you read these booklets numerous times during the summer so that your student can remember the words we learned this year. We continued to work on report card evaluations. The kindergartners began learning about dinosaurs. On Thursday we went to the Traer Public Library. Miss Linda read us a book and showed us around the library. The Traer Public Library is a great place to go during the summer! Centers included a clothing shop, marble magic, war, white boards, geoboards, a colorful spring project, and word concentration.
Do not forget that on Friday, May 30th, we have our annual track and field day. A schedule of the events will go home soon if it hasn’t already. When all the events are over, families may pick their child up at the child’s room. They will have backpacks and folders to pick up and take home. On Monday, June 2nd, the last day of school, we get out of school at 1:35. Please mark that on your calendars!

Dear Families,

We read two more booklets this week. Your student should have brought home the following booklets: We Win! and Jen and Yip. We recommend that you read these booklets numerous times during the summer so that your student can remember the words we learned this year. We continued to work on report card evaluations. We enjoyed meeting many grandparents this week! The students made cookies for their guests on Tuesday. The recipe is attached

Next Thursday we are going down to the Traer Public Library. If the weather is nice we will walk. If the weather is inclement we will take a bus.

Do not forget that on Friday, May 30th, we have our annual track and field day. A schedule will be sent home soon. Our events are the sack race, the 50 yard dash, and the tug-of-war.
